9. The White Album – The Beatles
With an original price of $11.28, The White Album was the Beatles’ ninth studio album and was released on 22nd November 1968. It featured a sleeve that was plain white with no graphics or text other than The Beatles embossed upon it. This was intentional to contrast against the previous album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
It’s also their only album to be a double album, and it features thirty songs. Nineteen of these songs were written in March and April 1968 during the band’s time in India.
When Ringo Star’s personal White Album copy went on sale, it fetched an eye-watering $790,000. The reason for its high price was because it was owned by Ringo Star himself, but secondly, because it bore the number 0000001, which meant that it was the first record ever made of the album.
Due to the Beatles being so iconic, their memorabilia have become great collectors’ items.
