10. G.I Joe – First Edition Action Figure
Made by Hasbro in 1964 and sold for around $4, G.I. Joe was a popular action figure. However, it cost Hasbro a lot to manufacture these, so they weren’t made for very long.
In the early 1960s, it was believed that parents wouldn’t buy dolls for their sons and that boys wouldn’t play with them if they were called a doll, hence the name action figure.
The original prototypes had all sorts of names, including Ace, who was a pilot, Skip, who was a sailor; and Rocky, who was a marine.
It was one of these prototypes that sold for $200,001 in 2003 at a Heritage auction.
